SEMCOG UniversityBuilding Vibrant Communities Using Mixed-Use Development

April 26, 2007

Local elected officials and planning staff learned how to create vibrant communities through different types of mixed-development. Creative workers demand natural, recreational, cultural, and lifestyle amenities as well as economic opportunity when selecting a place to live, work, and play. Communities can build or enhance their vibrancy through mixed-use development.

Real estate developer and University of Michigan adjunct professor Peter Allen led the discussion on how to recognize opportunities and implement quality mixed-use development projects. Additionally, case studies of exciting real estate projects in Southeast Michigan that provide these elements were presented.
